It’s time for some pasta but not just any pasta. This is rasta pasta, a unique, colorful, and jerk flavored dish. The jerk seasoning in this recipe gives the pasta a good level of spice and is perfect when you’re craving a pasta with a little kick. It’s great having a fun and easy pasta to prepare on a hectic weeknight.
Rasta Pasta
The name Rasta refers to Rastafarian and comes from the Rastafari culture in Jamaica. Rasta Pasta is a colorful pasta dish made with creamy sauce and a variety of bell peppers and Caribbean seasonings. You can easily do options with this meal with or without chicken, shrimp or seafood, and oxtail rasta pasta is also a thing. Such a simple but tasty recipe that will be sure to make the rotation.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to the package instructions, take it out as "al dente" because you will cook it more in the next steps. Cube chicken breast, toss in jerk seasoning and cook until it's golden and cooked through. Then remove from the pot, and set aside to add later.
- Add vegetable oil to pot, and saute bell peppers with green onions. Add the minced garlic and cook until it fragrant.
- Add jerk seasoning to the pot. Add whipping cream, chicken or vegetable stock to the pot. Simmer for a minutes or until the sauce thickens, add parmesan to the sauce and then mix in the pasta.
- Garnish with chopped chives, green onions, or parsley and serve.
Notes
- I recommend using penne for this recipe, but you can also use rigatoni, bucatini, or bow tie.
- You can use rotisserie chicken for this dish
- This pasta is spicy with the amount of jerk seasoning added, so if you don't like much spice then consider adding just half of the amount.
